Sopelana, Baskenland, Spanien (donnerstag, 28. Juli, 2011) - Der ASP 1-Star Billabong Pro Junior Sopelana ist gestern gestartet und die ersten 2 Runden der Männer sind durch. Gestartet wurde bei minimal Bedingungen von 2 Fuss, zum Nachmittag, bei einsetzender Flut, wurden die Bedingungen dann aber etwas besser. Europas besten U21 Athleten kämpfen hier gegeneinander.

Der Billabong Pro Junior Sopelana bietet entscheidende Punkte für alle Surfer für ihre Platzierungen in Richtung Qualifikation zur die ASP World Junior Series. Angepfiffen der ASP World Junior Series ist dann am 3. Oktober in Bali in Indonesien. Zudem gibt es ein zusätzliches Preisgeld von 2.000 Euro.
Favorit ist Thomas La Fonta (Bidart, FRA) 20, der jetzt schon die 3. Runde erreicht hat und mit 8.33 den höchsten einzel Score und mit 15.00 Punkten auch den höchsten Score für einen Heat im Event erreicht hat. Mit dabei sind auch 2 deutsche Juniorinnen. Einmal Kira Groen, sie ist deuteche Junior Meisterin von 2010 und einmal Virginia Giesen, Vize Junior Meisterin von 2010 und Junior Meisterin 2009.
